JULY 2007: Quirky Van offers boost to business
AS PUBLISHED Friday 20 July 2007 in: The Annandale Observer, Dumfries Courier, Moffat News and Lockerbie News.
A former colour consultant for Lotus sports cars is now turning heads with a very different vehicle.
Geoff Devlin has acquired a rare Japanese van to use as an everyday vehicle for his new wallpapering and interior decorating/design consultancy.
He was most recently a PR and marketing executive for a multi-national company, which involved weekly trips to London, but gave up the rat race for the gentler pace of life in Dumfriesshire.
Geoff combined his skills, experience and interests to set up a new business Hang it all!, based at his home at Queensberry Terrace Cummertrees, near Annan.
And his limited edition van, nicknamed Daisy, has already been attracting interest to his new enterprise.
He acquired the vehicle over the Internet when it was declared surplus to requirements after sitting in a Newcastle warehouse for four years.
Only a small number of the vehicles were built in Japan in 1990. Including some of the features of the Nissan Sunny, the vehicle was called an S-Cargo and with its 1500cc engine is not a slow machine!
Geoff, a classic car enthusiast said:
"Her quirky look has been causing a stir wherever she goes. She seems to make people raise a smile.
"As well as drawing attention to my business, she is also a very practical everyday vehicle."
Geoff, who has a successful track record of internal property redesign and development, says his services have taken off. He said
"I’m enjoying every minute. After travelling 55000 miles in the UK alone every year it is great to work from home in a local area."
JUNE 2007: Daisy’s the talk of the town!
Have you seen that strange looking van running round Annan over the past two weeks? The chances are you have – it’s the talk of the town!
When local businessman Geoff Devlin launched Hang-it-all! his new wallpapering and interior decorating/consultancy business last week he wanted to do something completely different and something people would remember.
Nothing prepared him for the interest his little van would cause though!
Named ‘Daisy’, it is a rare, limited edition, Japanese import, and one of a very few in the country. It was built in Japan by Nissan in 1990, based on Nissan Sunny bits. They called it an S-Cargo (a clever play on the French word Escargot meaning snail, but its lively 1500cc engine means it is anything but slow!
Commenting on the story, Geoff said
"It’s quite amazing really, every one loves her! I have even have had school children asking if they can use pictures of her as screensavers on their mobile phones and computers!
"Her quirky looks cause a stir wherever she goes. She just seems to raise a smile and make people very happy".
